Mission Statement

The Monterey County Elections Office has a team of dedicated officials who provide leadership and coordination to deliver responsive and innovative services which support and enhance one of the finest communities in the United States. The administration of all public elections, held within Monterey County, is the predominant role of the Monterey County Elections Office.

What We Do


The Monterey County Elections Department keeps the voter registration lists and runs all elections within Monterey County, from federal elections down to the local elections.

Our goal is to run elections with the highest level of integrity while offering high quality and efficient customer service.  We strive to improve our services by working closely with the public.

We are a small team of dedicated people who provide services to voters, cities, school districts and others in Monterey County in six program areas.

We provide services in English and Spanish in order to follow the Voting Rights Act.

Our website is always changing.  Why?  Because each year, we make changes based on new laws and regulations. We also update voter information for each election.  Please visit us before each election to get the latest information!

When there is an Upcoming Election, the website will also contain specific information, such as:

  • The offices and measures are on the ballot for that election
  • How to run for public office
  • How to check that your voter registration is current
  • How to find your polling place (where do I vote?)
  • A listing of all drop off locations for voted ballots
  • How to check if we received your vote by mail ballot
  • A schedule of activities that may be observed at any time by the public
