Absentee Information

Any registered voter may vote by mail. Voters who wish to vote by mail may apply in person or by mail. You may not apply for a Vote By Mail ballot over the telephone. An application for an Vote By Mail ballot will be printed on the back of your sample ballot.

Vote By Mail ballots may be returned by mail prior to the election or delivered to any polling place in Monterey County on election day. Postmarks are NOT ACCEPTABLE! All Vote By Mail ballots must be received by the Registrar of Voters no later than the close of polls on election day. The Vote By Mail period begins 29 days prior to election day.

Overseas Voters

If you are temporarily living in a foreign country, or if you are in the military or a government employee stationed outside the United States and we already have either your foreign country address or your overseas military address (with an AA, AE or AP state designation) on file, then you do not need to apply for an absentee ballot. All overseas residents and all overseas military and government personnel and dependents will be sent an absentee ballot automatically for every election.
